Children & Family Futures needs your help!
Each year hundreds of thousands of children face the consequences of their parents substance abuse and these consequences can be devastating. Children may be neglected or abused; they may be removed from their parents care and placed in protective custody. Babies whose mothers use alcohol or drugs during pregnancy can experience lifelong cognitive, behavioral, and emotional difficulties.
Substance abuse is a preventable and treatable problem with cost-effective solutions. Prevention programs, good assessment, early intervention, and comprehensive treatment are the keys to creating positive outcomes for the children of families affected by substance abuse. When parents are supported in recovery, children can remain with their families or be safely reunited in a timely manner. Strong partnerships among child welfare providers, treatment agencies, the courts, and other service providers are needed to create better lives for these children.
Children and Family Futures is a nonprofit company established to address the problems of children affected by their parents substance abuse. Children and Family Futures works to create and support effective interagency partnerships, conduct policy research, provide technical assistance, and develop tools that allow agencies to identify and serve this critical group of children and families.
We are seeking your financial support for our National Conference, Putting the Pieces Together for Children and Families: The National Conference on Substance Abuse, Child Welfare, and the Courts, which will be held in January 2007. This conference will spotlight the needs of 350,000 children in the child welfare system whose parents substance abuse has contributed to abuse and neglect.
